2010ystone5day01

DAY 1

This trip begins at the Bechler Ranger Station in the southwest corner of Yellowstone National Park. After a few fun river crossings on Boundary Creek, we’ll find a quaint camp spot right on the river. We will enjoy a peaceful view of the horses grazing in the meadow. Fishing and swimming is available right at the campsite.

Riding time: Approx. 3 & 1/2 hours.

DAY 2

Our day ride will take us a few miles up Boundary Creek to our destination - Dunanda Falls. After lunch, we can explore some little hot pools below the waterfall, explore Silver Scarf Falls, or ride further up the canyon towards Buffalo Lake and some other thermal features. It's all up to you!

Riding time: All day.

DAY 3

Today we will pack up camp and go to our second campsite which is located about 7.5 miles up the Bechler River. This is a lovely ride and our destination and campsite will be near the confluence of the Phillips Fork, The Gregg Fork, and the Ferns Fork rivers. This is a lovely campsite right along the Bechler River. The meadow is wonderful for horses

DAY 4

But the real attraction is a short walk or ride upstream to the Ferris Fork to a pool called "Ferris Fork Pool" or "Mr. Bubbly" as the locals call it. We can have lunch, soak and perhaps explore around a bit and see what other thermal features we might find. There is also the option of riding further up stream to the Pitchtone Plateau.

We'll return to the ranger station by way of the Bechler River Trail, crossing at Rocky Ford. We'll picnic along the Fall River, pass through quiet meadows, ride a narrow trail where the sunlight slants through the lodge pole forest.
